Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only seven months following starting disrespectful taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road finished through agreement in August.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead insulting songs about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Past History Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
