The British tennis star secured the most notable win of his career by coming back from a set down to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Even though he had earlier beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's initial success over a current world top-ranked player.

"Bouncing back from injury last year, I was defeated in the opening stage of qualifiers here. I just tried to embrace my performance in the second half of the year. To get a win like this, it's the biggest win of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the world No 1 and arguably the most in-form competitor in the sport right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also halted Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine finals in a row and 17 consecutive Masters 1000 successes, which marked the top run of results in the Spaniard's developing career.

The top seed looked to be moving confidently to success at the start as he sailed in the opening set.
