Former NFL Player Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Ex- NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an murder attempt allegation connected with a gunfire that took place in May, as his counsel entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Detention logs in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his transfer to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the National Football League, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being taken into custody in Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an email that he has already filed a written innocent plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a release session, Eiglarsh said.
According to his apprehension document, Brown is accused of seizing a firearm from a security staffer after a celebrity boxing bout in May and firing a couple of rounds at a person he had confronted with previously. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed police that one shot touched his neck.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was simply defending himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was compelled to take were purely in defense against the claimed person’s hostile actions. Brown was targeted that night and behaved within his lawful right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh said.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally police did not identify Nantambu as a affected party. It only afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a full statement about the incident to officers and identified Brown as the shooter, the report indicates.
